A Green Place to Be: The Creation of Central Park
One of my favorite things to buy on vacation with my kids is a book about the place we’re visiting. A Green Place to Be: The Creation of Central Park, written & illustrated by Ashley Benham Yazdani, (Candlewick Press) is a perfect example. I love the whimsical illustrations and the interesting facts we learned along the way while reading this book. Did you know that Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted won a design contest with their vision for what would become Central Park? This included a special section for children with a nearby dairy where you could get fresh milk after playing. So ideal. The more you know, friends. And since you’ll likely spend time in this beautiful park when you visit the Big Apple, now you can take a little bit of it home with you!
