Economy Candy
Calling all candy lovers! If you find yourselves on the Lower East Side during your vacation, a stop at Economy Candy simply can’t be missed. At this family-owned, authentic, been-here-since-the-1930s sweet shop, you’ll find every nostalgic piece of candy from your childhood (which you can introduce your kid to, LOL), barrels of bubble gum and rows upon rows of chocolate. This mom and pop, candy fanatics dream will send you back in time and gives perma-grin for free. Nearby Essex Market is a fun stop for lunch beforehand, and don’t forget the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, too (review forthcoming).
Location:
108 Rivington Street (between Ludlow and Essex)
Store hours:
Every day, 11am-6pm (Holiday hours can be found here)
And if you can’t make it all the way downtown, never fear. A smaller second shop, aptly named Taste of Economy Candy, recently opened in Chelsea Market, and it’s filled with all your favorites candies, too (we may have sampled a couple, just to be sure).
